Newsletter April 2019

Annual Meeting

The Annual HOHA meeting will be on April 24th at 6:30 PM at the St. Charles Police Station on Zumbehl Rd. All Homeowners should attend. If you cannot attend, please fill out a proxy ballot. You have received a letter about the meeting and a proxy ballot in the mail. We will provide cookies and water at the meeting. You have to be up to date on your HOA dues to vote.

Neighborhood Garage Sale

  • There is a poll on the Hidden Oaks Homeowners Facebook page to determine which dates work best for the most people. The date will be announced at the Hidden Oaks meeting. Right now it looks like it will be May 29th, 31st, and June 1st, but the survey is still open.
  • The board has decided we are not providing maps or balloons this year, so you don’t have to sign up to participate.
  • The board will make a Facebook event and put a sign out in front of the subdivision.
  • If you would like to have more signs out you can volunteer to put them out and/or pick them up. We have signs ready.
  • We have brightly colored flags to place on the monument to catch people attention if anyone wants to volunteer to put those up.
  • We need a volunteer to post the sale on garage sale Facebook Groups, Buy Sell and Trade Facebook Groups, Craigslist, and other garage sale sites.
  • Once the event is up and public, you are welcome to post items that will be in your sale on the event page.
  • To volunteer email: hiddenoaks63303@gmail.com or Facebook message Angela Layman

Outdoor Spring Cleaning

It’s warming up outside. It’s time to freshen your mulch and powerwash siding and concrete. This year, also check your mailbox and make sure it is still in good condition. If it looks bad, please fix it.

Reminder About Signs in Yards

In our covenants it says we are only allowed to display sale and rent signs in our yards. Please do not keep other signs in your yards.

(l) No sign of any kind shall be displayed to the public view on any Lot, except one sign of not more than five square feet advertising the property for sale or rent, provided that there shall be no restrictions on signs used by the Developer to advertise the Subdivision during the construction, development and sales of Lots and Dwellings in the Subdivision by the Developer.

Our covenants can be viewed here: https://hidden-oaks.com/about

Reporting to City

If you need to report a pothole, dangerous sidewalk, or something else to the city, you can’t use See Click Fix anymore. Here is a link to what the city is using now: https://stcharles.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=442f3e22f1ee407f9904472c5a8b7820&fbclid=IwAR1iy_kY4jT3zqza8I82J6-vm8vlp-XOTAopVO5izBoHQNheECXIkU8rGp0

Keep You and Your Stuff Safe

To keep you and your stuff safe please lock and shut doors. The safest place for your vehicle is in a garage. We know that’s not possible for everyone. Make sure your vehicle doors are locked. Bring your valuables inside if you can, if not make sure they are out of sight. If a neighbor forgets to shut their garage contact them and let them know it is open, you might prevent your neighbor from being robbed.

If anyone ever robs you, goes though your vehicle, or tries to open your doors; contact the St. Charles Police at 636-949-3300. They need to be aware of the situation and the information you give them may help them catch criminals.

Solicitors over the age of 18 are required to get a permit from the city to come to your door. You can ask them if they have this permit (they should be wearing it on the outside of their clothes) if they don’t you should contact the police at 636-949-3300. If you do not want solicitors you can put up a sign. If you have a sign and they still bother you can call and report them. The police station has No Soliciting stickers. Here is a picture you can print if you’d like.noSoliciting

Common Ground

The board has started discussing the common ground along South 5th Street. HOHA pays to maintain this land. Do you think we should ask City of St. Charles if they want to buy this land from us? If they do not want to buy it, would you consider donating to the city with stipulations that it becomes Hidden Oaks Park and that they would need to maintain some picnic tables there? Maybe we could add that if the tables are rentable that HOHA will not have to pay to rent them. If we sold that land we might have to worry about cell towers being built there. We can have a discussion on Facebook before the meeting and discus it further at the HOHA meeting on April, 24th, 2019.

Common Ground on South 5th Street

This is a picture from the neighborhood charts. The area that is our common ground it traced.

Common Gound on South 5th Overlayed on Google Maps

This image is from Google maps. I put it on the chart picture and matched it up pretty close, so you can get a general idea of the area we are talking about.

Update: Our councilman informed us that the city is trying to get rid of similar pockets of land and would not be intrested in acquiring this land.

The Monument / Island

We are discussing how to update this island. We want to cut costs and make it look better.
Mulch– We plan to remove excess mulch. Every year more much is added much is added and we now have a much mountain that is burring our sign and overflowing into the street. We may consider rocks instead of much. Rocks will not have to be replaced or updated yearly like mulch.
Sprinklers– We pay a lot of money to Automatic rain to maintain and fix our sprinkler system. The sprinklers break often. People complain about their cars getting spayed. We are considering soaker hoses instead. They will need to be replaced once in a while, but should use less water and cost less. With soaker hoses we could probably eliminate the need for Automatic rain.
Native Plants– We are talking about adding perennial flowers that use less water. They don’t all necessarily have to be native, but they do have to require as little care as possible. Right now we get new Annuals planted couple times a year. We could reduce costs if we didn’t have to pay Partell’s Lawn & Landscape LLC to plant all these flowers.
The Words– We have discussed changing/updating the words Hidden Oaks to possibly be backlit or different, but we think we want to see what it looks like without the mountain of mulch before we decide if we want something different.
Roses, Bushes, Tree– How do you feel about our roses, evergreen bushes and tree? Should they stay or should they go? Tell us what you think. https://goo.gl/forms/KyeI8IWDokuPB3F22

Entrance Island Update
The board is looking at options for updating our entrance island. We are looking at updating, structure, watering and lighting systems as well as
the plantings. We are doing this partly to give our neighborhood a facelift of sorts, but also we have a couple of repair items to work out and will wait to do those until we have decided on the new plan. We know the island looks like it needs help, and we are making plans that we hope the work starts in the fall, but the real finish will be next spring.

Annual Meeting – April 10, 2016
The annual meeting was held and we elected Meghan Haynes to finish Vince Ratchfords term, and Angela Layman to take Rich Siemons position. Rich is retiring from the board and Vince is now our Ward 3 Chairperson. We thank both of them for their service to the neighborhood and wish them well in there next endeavors! Meeting Minutes

Saint Charles Night Out – Neighborhood/ City Event
We will once again this year participate in this event with the city. The city departments such as police, fire, council persons, and the mayor will work at stopping by as many events as they can make in the time period. We will gather and have an ice cream social, with fun and good neighborhood spirit!! Please mark your calendars for Monday, September 11th from 5:30-8:30 to stop by…..this will be held in the Canyon Oak Ct in the southeast corner of the neighborhood.

Halloween Parade and Chili Cook Off
We had such fun last year we are doing it again!! This year we will have this event on Sunday, October 29th from 3-6PM. We will start with the parade- kids dress up in this year’s finery and parade through the neighborhood to show all! The parade will start at 3:30. Then we will still have fun & games going on and getting ready for the chili cook off! We will have “celebrity” judges and award prizes for the top three chilis. While judging takes place we will also line up and eat some fine chili! The board will supply grated cheese, onion, oyster crackers for the event. Please plan to BYOB for your drinks of the evening.

Girls Game Night (GGN)
We have a group of gals that get together once a month during most of the school year calendar. We gather at a different neighborhood home each month to play a game, enjoy good conversation, and of course the food we all bring! The host home provides table/ chairs for the game, and one clean bathroom! The attendees then bring appetizers/ desserts to share and drink of their choice- wala…instant party! If you wish to be on the email reminder please contact Kirsten at kirstencory@sbcglobal.net. We also post on the HOHA Facebook page the announcements about this event.

Volunteers Needed
Can you help, even some of the time? As we hold events we need help with organizing, setting up, running, take down, etc with each event. We will ask at each event for help, but we also would like to start a Voluteer List. If you are willing to volunteer during an event, please email the board to let us know. As events roll around all on this list will get an email, if you can volunteer please respond to that email. Just being on the list means you will help when your schedule does allow! One item brought up at the annual meeting was coming up with “________” for welcoming new neighbors. This is a great opportunity to volunteer! Please contact the board if you have an idea of what that welcoming thing should be, and then also if you are willing to be apart of the welcoming committee. We probably just need 2-3 people for this to make sure we welcome people as they move in!
